The Caribbean Social Immersion Program helps to understand the social realities in the Caribbean with social immersion programs for college students, researchers and professionals.

Our Services

The Caribbean Social Immersion Program customizes programs for groups of 12 to 26 people with full time interpreters. Currently, we are offering programs in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and Guyana.

The Caribbean Social Immersion Program is focused on college students, academic and business researchers and young professionals.  At this time, we do not offer programs for high school students.

Jesuit Roots

Our programs are hosted by Centro Montalvo, a social and educational center of the Society of Jesus in the Dominican Republic.

Centro Montalvo is dedicated to implementing programs of accompaniment and social training, as well as research, communication and advocacy.

We work closely with Jesuit organizations in the Caribbean and South America.

Why the Caribbean?

Knowing the Caribbean helps to understand an important wave of 3.5 million immigrants in the United States.

This region is a convection of many different cultures: French, Spanish, Briton, American, Creole.

We showcase and provide meaningful and informed encounters with leaders and communities across society in every country we visit.

Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic

We offer several different immersion trips in the Dominican Republic: from the border with Haiti, to City of Santiago in the center of the Island, to the complex realities of migrants and Dominicans of Haitian descent living in Santo Domingo and the Eastern region.

"A social immersion program is an intensive encounter with the social reality of a country or region, guided by local social studies professionals, that provides a deep and comprehensive understanding from a human, economic, social, cultural and historical perspective".

— Father Max Michel, SJ - Director

With the help of local Jesuits, we meet with Christian communites and learn from the great people of Cuban about their culture, problems and hopes in their past, now and in the future.

Landing in Cap-Haïtien, the historic northeast shows us the soul of Haiti, and local Jesuits show us their work with the Jesuit Service to Migrants at the border with the Dominican Republic.

Lethem, Guyana

We visit the beautiful capital of Guyana: Georgetown, then fly south to the border with Brazil, to the City of Lethem, to learn about the past, present and future of Amerindian communities.
